Orange Sweet Cinnamon Rolls
This is not your ordinary cinnamon roll! The wonderful sweet orange flavor with the cinnamon and ghee makes this dessert a winner!!
For the Dough:
• 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
• 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
• 2 tbsp sugar
• 1 1/4 tsp baking powder
• 1/2 tsp baking soda
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 1 zest from medium orange
• 1/2 cup orange juice
• 1/2 buttermilk or plain yogurt
• 3 tbsp ghee
For the Filling:
• 2 tbsp ghee
• 2 tbsp. sugar
• 1 tbsp. cinnamon
For the Glaze:
• 1/2 cup powdered sugar
• 3-4 tbsp fresh squeezed orange juice
• zest from one medium orange
Start by zesting two medium oranges.
Then squeeze out all the juice.
For the dough, mix all the dry ingredients together in a large bowl.
Then add all the remaining wet ingredients.
Mix together and knead for a few minutes. It should become smooth and elastic. If it is too wet then add a little more flour.
Now roll the dough into a roughly 12″ x 9″ rectangle, about a 1/2″ thick. It doesn’t need to be perfect.
Now make the filling by adding all the ingredients together in a bowl.
Mix it all together.
After that, top the dough with the cinnamon mixture.
Roll it up starting from the 9″ end of the rectangle.
Here is what it looks like fully rolled up.
Cut the roll into 8 pieces. A great tip to help cut the dough is to use a small string or dental floss. Just wrap it around the roll and pull the two ends across and it will cut the rolls very neatly.
Nice and clean cut in 2 seconds!
Put your perfectly cut rolls on an oiled baking pan and bake for about 15 – 17 minutes.
While the cinnamon buns are cooking, prepare the glaze by adding all the ingredients into a small bowl and mix together.
This is what the consistency should look like.
Now the buns are ready to come out of the oven.
Now immediately pour the glaze onto the buns while they are still hot.
Now you are ready to serve to Kṛṣṇa with love and devotion!
